Police have rescued Preeti Khandaker Halima, a woman vice chairman candidate in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, two days after her reportedly going missing while campaigning for votes.
She was found from the Kanchpur area of Narayanganj on Thursday (May 30) morning and was later taken to Bijoynagar Thana for questioning regarding the matter.
Bijoynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asadul Islam confirmed the matter to the media.
Earlier, Preeti Khandaker’s husband, Masud Khandaker filed a GD with Bijoynagar Thana in this regard.
He also filed a petition to District Returning Officer in this regard on Wednesday (May 29).
According to the petition, 35-year-old Preeti Khandaker went from Harashpur union in Bijoynagar upazila during election campaigning on May 28 but hasn’t returned since then.
The Bijoynagar upazila parishad election is scheduled for 5 June.
Preeti has been contesting for the vice chairman post under the ‘lotus’ symbol. Three other women candidates are also competing for the post.
