Eleven-year-old teen girl Arabi Islam Suba who went missing from the capital’s Mohammadpur area has been rescued from Naogaon.

The rescue operation took place in Naogaon district, where a youth accompanying Suba was also detained for questioning.

The issue of the missing teen girl has been gone viral over different social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube recently.

On Tuesday (February 4) afternoon, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Adabar Police Station, SM Zakaria, confirmed the matter to the media.

He said that a joint team from Adabar Police Station and DB travelled to Naogaon with assistance from local police to locate and rescue the missing teenager. The youth, who is suspected of being involved in her disappearance, has been taken into custody.

When asked about potential charges against the youth, OC Zakaria explained that formal arrest would depend on whether Suba’s family files a case. “If the victim’s family lodges a complaint, we will process the boy as an accused,” he clarified.

Regarding Suba’s handover, Zakaria noted that her family had left Dhaka. Until they return, authorities will ensure her safekeeping and reunification with them.

Following her rescue, Suba reassured her loved ones via a video message, saying, “I am fine. I will return to my father.”

Suba, a class VI student from Barisal, arrived in Dhaka two months ago to accompany her father, Imran Rajib, who was staying with his sister for the treatment of Suba’s mother, who suffers from lung cancer. On Sunday (February 2) at around 6 PM, Suba left home with her younger cousin. While attempting to cross the road near their residence, she disappeared.

CCTV footage from the area revealed Suba standing outside Tokyo Square in Mohammadpur alongside an unidentified individual, not her cousin. Witnesses reported seeing her walking with this person shortly before her disappearance.

In a statement to media, Suba’s father described the harrowing experience: “Suba is in sixth grade at a school in Barisal. We’ve been living at my sister’s house in Dhaka for the past two months because of my wife’s illness.”

He added, “Suba went out with her cousin on Sunday evening. While crossing the road, her cousin stepped ahead briefly. When he turned back, Suba was gone.” A general diary (GD) was subsequently filed with the Adabar Police Station.
