Many stars of the Bangladeshi showbiz world have migrated abroad. They have settled there. Some occasionally come back to the country and work.
In recent times, the tendency of stars to go abroad has increased significantly.
Many current artistes including Amit Hasan, Symon Sadik, Zayed Khan, Mahiya Mahi, Saju Khadem are on this list. Actor Misha Sawdagor, President of the Film Artistes’ Association, spoke about the artistes going abroad. He said that the tendency of artistes to go abroad has increased due to the decrease in work.
Misha Sawdagor’s family members have also settled in the United States. He himself spends half of the year in the US. Recently, on a television show, the actor spoke about artists settling abroad. According to him, if there was work in the country, artists would not have to go abroad.
In this regard, Misha said, “What else are artistes supposed to do if there is no work? Once, I worked on four or five films in a day. I started at 7:00am and it went on till 2:00am. Now that FDC is almost closed. Did any of the artistes who have gone abroad want to leave the country? My friend Amit Hasan, the hero of so many films, has also gone abroad.
Apart from that, Moushumi, Emon, Alexander Bo have left. Many have left the country recently. Mahiya Mahiya is also in the US. If I say my own thing, I can’t do anything except acting. Those who have gone cannot be blamed. If there was work, they would have worked here.”
Misha also said, “Whether our artistes have work or not, they have to maintain a lot of things. They have to keep a look, have a car, use a good mobile phone, wear good clothes, and keep their drawing room decorated. Apart from that, we work for the family to keep the family members well.
But if there is no work, if the income stops, then what will an artist do? Not everyone will understand the sacrifices of artistes. If they go there (abroad), at least they can survive by working and with their families.”
