A group of miscreants carried out an attack at a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) base in Cox’s Bazar, leaving one dead and several others injured.

A press release of The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed it on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place at the air force base in Kutubdiapara of Cox’s Bazar town on Monday noon. The deceased has been identified as Shihab Kabir, 30.

The ISPR press release continued that these miscreants were instigated to throw brickbats at the air force personnel.

Several people including four from the air force (one officer and three airmen) were also injured.

According to an ISPR press release, a group of miscreants from the nearby Samiti Para area launched an unexpected attack on the base.

In response, The Bangladesh Air Force is taking necessary actions in this regard, the release said.

However, The Bangladesh air force expresses deep sorrow over the death of the young man and extends condolences to his family.

Meanwhile, some locals claimed that a clash had taken place in the area, resulting in gunfire that killed Shihab Kabir.

Shihab was the son of Nasir Uddin, a former superintendent of PTI from Samiti Para in the municipal area. He was a businessman by profession.

Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Salah Uddin confirmed the matter to the media and said that one person had died in the hospital, and several others were injured in the incident.

Authorities are discussing with both sides to understand how the situation started, he said, adding an investigation is ongoing.
