Students agitating for anti-discrimination quota reforms along with the implementation of 9-point demands, as part of the central agenda, staged a mass rally in Mirzapur of Tangail on Saturday and blocked the railway line.
In the afternoon, the students of various educational institutions started a mass procession in the Mirzapur bypass area with red ribbons on their heads and sticks in their hands along with the Khandap Khand procession. Agitated with the procession, the students blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi-Khulna railway line at Mirzapur Bypass Banshai Road on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Setu Highway.
At this time, excitement and panic spread in the city.
Meanwhile, when the Mirzapur Thana police arrived at the scene, the agitating students marched and left the area. No untoward incident took place due to strict police alert. OC (Investigation) of Mirzapur Police Station has visited the bypass area to control the situation. A group of police under the leadership of Salahuddin is on patrol.
In this regard, the officer in charge of Mirzapur police station. Rezaul Karim told media workers that some students of various educational institutions tried to take out the procession. Sensing the presence of the police, they left. No untoward incident happened anywhere.
