Minister for banning unregistered mobile phones

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak has directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to take steps to block all unregistered mobile phone sets. He gave this instruction in a meeting with senior officers of BTRCat Agargaon in the capital recently.
The State Minister opined that all illegal mobile phone sets should be banned to protect the market of mobile phones manufacturing and legally importing in the country. He said, it must be ensured that the phone sets coming through illegal channels cannot be sold.Besides, he sought cooperation of all mobile operators to stop unregistered phone sets, Junaid Ahmed said, there is no compromise in this regard and itwill be implemented soon.
He mentioned that the database and automatic registrationof mobile phone sets manufacturing & importing through legal channels are available in BTRC and it was also informed that the National Equipment Identity Registration (NEIR) system has been established in BTRC to confirm the ownership of the customer through mobile phone
registration, to prevent the production, import and marketing of illegal and low-quality handsets, to stop the theft and misuse of mobile phones and to maintainappropriate order & situation in mobile phone industry.
