Students of Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara on Tuesday confined Law Adviser Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, Education Adviser CR Abrar, and Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam inside the campus during a heated protest over Monday’s deadly plane crash.
The three officials were prevented from leaving Building No. 5 around 11:30am as students surrounded them. With assistance from college teachers, they were eventually taken back inside the building for safety.
Earlier in the morning, the officials had visited the crash-hit Haider Ali Building to inspect the site. After completing the inspection at around 10:30am, their attempt to leave was blocked by agitated students who demanded answers and justice.
During the standoff, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul engaged in discussions with a group of student representatives.
Tariqul Islam, a Class 11 student, alleged that the real death toll is higher than officially reported. “We believe at least 40 people died, but the government says 27. Many families still haven’t found their children’s bodies,” he said. “There’s been no clear commitment to a full investigation. That’s why we’re protesting.”
The students earlier outlined six key demands, including accurate disclosure of victims’ identities, accountability from the Air Force, and reform of military training protocols.
