People across the country have been feeling the intensity of winter accompanied by dense fogs and mild cold wave, leaving the ordinary people to face the inclement weather as the sun is invisible throughout the day.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), mild cold wave was sweeping over Rangpur division and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Naogaon and Kushtia.
In a forecast for the next 72 hours, BMD said that moderate to dense fog may occur over the country during midnight to morning and it may continue at places till noon. Air navigation, inland river transport and road communication may disrupt temporarily due to dense fog.
The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 8.3 degrees Celsius in Tentulia while Rangpur 9.7 degrees Celsius, Rajshahi 9.8 degrees Celsius, Dinajpur 10 degrees Celsius, Chuadanga 10.8 degrees Celsius, Dhaka 13.6 degrees Celsius, Mymensingh 14.2 degrees Celsius, Sylhet 15 degrees Celsius, Chattogram 15.4 degrees Celsius, Jashore 11.2 degrees Celsius and Barishal 13.6 degrees Celsius.
For the next five days, light rain/drizzle may occur over northern part of the country at the beginning of this period, BMD forecast.
Meanwhile, lives and livelihoods in the northern parts of the country have been badly affected as the cold wind and dense fog are hindering the easy movement for the poor people and the low-income groups of people are not getting regular jobs to feed them in this inclement weather.
People are not coming out of their houses if they do not have any urgent tasks. As a result, the rickshaw pullers are not getting passengers, resulting in low income.
Rickshaw puller Hasan Mia in Rangpur said, “Over the last few days, there are hardly any passengers in the roads due to intense cold weather. At night, the fogs turn into drizzles. As a result, I don’t get enough passengers.
He said that he along with his family is passing a difficult time amid this winter as their income has been curtailed.
According to the Rangpur weather office, the dense fog and increased humidity have caused biting cold in the northern districts.
Meanwhile, with the shivering cold wind, people especially children and old persons are suffering from sneezing, coughing and respiratory problems.
