Migratory birds declines at Hakaluki Haor

Hakaluki Haor, known as the largest freshwater wetland in Asia, has seen fewer migratory birds than in the past few years. Last Saturday (25th January) night after two days of bird census in different bill of Haor concerned persons
He said this information. A delegation of Bangladesh Bird Club conducted this census on 45 bills of Hakaluki Haor last 23 and 24 January. A team of eight members led by the organization’s general secretary Omar Shahadat took part in the census.
The Directorate and CNRS (Centre for Natural Resources Studies), a non-governmental organization working on the development of Haor, cooperated in the census.
Omar Shahadat, the head of the census team, said that there are 60 species in the census in 2025
A total of 35 thousand 268 birds were found. Among them there are 2 globally endangered Bear’s Ghost Ducks in Pingla Bill, 1 rare species of Baikal Tili Duck in Nagua-Loribai Bill, 3 Near Endangered Fuluri Ducks, 1 Near Endangered Rusty Color Ghost Ducks in Nagua-Loribai Bill.
1,588, near-threatened northern TT 6, endangered black-headed turtle 3,93 and globally endangered 9,09. Also Pyong duck 5 thousand 552, Northern Langya duck 4 thousand 272, Asiatic snail 4
One thousand two hundred and twenty-eight observations were made.
When asked about the reason for the decline in the number of water birds in Howar, Omar Shahadat said that it could be due to the adverse effects of global warming on the environment and the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture. He also said, the census
Time Haor has been seen fishing on different bills. A few bills have been fished almost empty of water.
Fishing has been observed in almost every water body. Besides, bird hunting with poison bait (Carbotaf) near Pingla Bill, current netting is prohibited in Nagua Bill.
