Midland Bank PLC has extended financial assistance of Tk 15 lakh to the family of late Abul Kalam, who tragically lost his life in the metro rail accident in Dhaka’s Farmgate area on October 27, 2025.
According to a media release, the bank provided Tk 5 lakh from its Islami Banking Fund under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, reaffirming its commitment to social welfare. The remaining Tk 10 lakh was contributed by the Midland Bank Family Members.
Md. Ahsan-uz Zaman, Managing Director & CEO of Midland Bank, handed over the financial documents to Mrs. Irin Akter Priya, wife of the late Abul Kalam, at a simple ceremony held on Thursday, at the bank’s Head Office in Dhaka.
Didarul Islam, Chief Financial Officer, and Syed Sakibuzzaman, Head of Islami Banking Division of Midland Bank, were also present at the event.
As part of the support, the bank has opened two MDB Saalam Family Support custodial accounts each worth Tk 7.5 lakh for Abul Kalam’s minor children, Abdullah Abrar and Parisa Mariam Sura, to help cover their daily living and educational expenses, the release added.
