The Dhaka Metro Rail services experienced a disruption on Sunday due to a power supply issue, causing a halt from 2:27 pm to 2:58 pm. The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) reported that the interruption lasted for approximately 31 minutes.

In a Facebook post, the DMTCL announced, “The metro rail movement has been temporarily suspended from 2:27 pm due to a power outage.” After around 30 minutes of efforts, the Metro Rail authority successfully restored the power supply, allowing train services to resume.

“Metro Rail has started regular operation as the power supply is now normal,” the DMTCL stated at 3 pm.

Ashraful Islam, a passenger bound for Motijheel from Mirpur, recounted the incident: “The train slowed down and stopped at Shewrapara Station, where it remained for 8-10 minutes.

Following that, the metro rail authorities announced over the loudspeaker, requesting passengers to step off the train. All passengers disembarked onto the platform and waited for around 30 minutes.”

An announcement later apologized for the inconvenience, citing a mechanical fault as the cause of the halt. The train service resumed at 2:58 pm.

Another passenger, Alamgir Hossain, traveling from Uttara to Motijheel, reported being stuck at Shahbagh station. He explained that the power supply issue occurred while the train was crossing Banglamotor from Karwanbazar station, causing a 30-minute stopover at Shahbagh station.

“All passengers were requested to step down to the station and wait. Those who wanted a refund received their money back. However, when the train resumed operation, it left without taking the waiting passengers on board, who had to wait for an additional 10 minutes,” he claimed.

He added that many passengers from nearby areas left the station immediately after the train stopped, but those who remained faced significant inconvenience during the disruption.
