BSS, Dhaka :
Blasting BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her comment that Ziaur Rahman was the first President of Independent Bangladesh, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon yesterday said a sedition case should be filed against her for making such an anti-constitutional comment.
“Begum Zia is trying to change Bangladesh’s history side by side with the history of independence . . . if Ziaur Rahman was the country’s first President, Bangladesh’s history will have to rewrite from 1975 instead of 1971,” Menon said while speaking at the 4th national conference of National Domestic Women Workers Union (NDWWU) here.
He said Begum Zia’s claim is not only contrary to Bangladesh history but also anti-constitutional. According to her claim, Bangladesh achieved independence in 1975 instead of 1971, he said, adding that a sedition case should be filed against her for it.
Menon said Begum Zia, who remained self-confined in Dhaka Cantonment during the nine-month of War of Independence, is not only claiming herself as freedom fighter but also receiving awards for it.
About the demands of NDWWU, Menon urged the government to take a policy for them.
State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haq Chunnu attended the conference as special guest. NDWWU President Advocate Jahanara Haq presided over it while labour leaders Abul Hosain, Sayed Sultan Ahmed and Lutfunnesa Khan Beauty, among others, spoke.
Mujibul Haq Chunnu said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked him to formulate a policy to establish the rights of domestic- helps.
