Popular actress of present generation, Mehazabien Chowdhury has reduced her acting in dramas for a few years.
She has focused on OTT and movies. She made her big screen debut in December last year with the movie ‘Priyo Maloti’.
Although ‘Priyo Maloti’ was Mehazabien’s first movie to be released, she first acted in the movie ‘Saba’.
After being screened at various film festivals in the country and abroad, ‘Saba’ is now being released in the country’s theatres.
The movie will see the light of day in theatres on September 26 on the occasion of Durga Puja. The matter has been confirmed by the director Maksud Hossain.
Saba is the daughter of a lower-middle-class family in the city. Her father has died. Her mother Shirin is bedridden after being injured in a road accident. She cannot walk without a wheelchair. Her daughter Saba is the only support for survival.
Saba could not organise her career while serving her family and mother. Despite financial hardship, she tries to make her mother healthy day and night.
Suddenly, Saba’s mother Shirin has a heart attack. It feels like the sky is falling on Saba, who is distraught. Saba is made with such a story. Mehazabien Chowdhury plays the title role.
Inspired by a true story from his own life, director Maksud Hossain wrote the story of the film.
Regarding the matter director Maksud Hossain said, “25 years ago, my wife Trilora Khan and her mother had a road accident. Since then, my mother-in-law has been in a wheelchair. Trilora used to take care of her.
After Trilora’s father died during Covid, she was very worried about how she would take care of her mother alone. Although her family’s financial condition is good.
Then we thought of bringing this story to the screen. But in a different context, where Saba is shown as a girl from a lower-middle-class family.”
‘Saba’ was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September last year. It was then screened at about a dozen film festivals, including Busan, Red Sea, Gothenburg, Sydney, and Raindance. Apart from Mehazabien, the film also stars Mostafa Monwar and Rokeya Prachi.
Producer and director of ‘Saba’, Maksud Hossain is excited about the release in theaters across the country after the festival.
In this regard, he said, “I was overwhelmed by the response of the audience after screening it at various festivals. Now I am waiting to see the reaction of the audience in the country. I hope that children will come to enjoy ‘Saba’ with their mothers.”
Apart from the film ‘Saba’, there are several other movies scheduled to be released during this year’s Durga Puja.
The release of Mostafizur Rahman Manik’s ‘Swapne Dekha Rajkonya’ and SM Shafiul Azam’s ‘Udiyoman Surya’ have already been announced.
