Students from several colleges, including Kabi Nazrul Government College and Suhrawardy College, attacked Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) in Jatrabari, Dhaka, causing significant damage to the college building. The area turned into a battleground as both groups engaged in violent clashes, with at least nine students reported injured in the ongoing confrontations.

On Monday at 12pm, several hundred students from Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul Government College launched an attack on students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College. According to the police, the attackers vandalised the college building and stole valuable items from the institution.

The clashes resulted in the closure of traffic on the road, causing severe congestion on nearby streets. A large number of law enforcement personnel were seen at the scene, working to bring the situation under control.

Wari Zone Assistant Commissioner Saiful Islam said, “Several individuals have been injured in the clashes. We are trying to bring the situation under control.”

This protest followed a call for a “Mega Monday” programme against attacks and vandalism on their campuses the previous day allegedly carried out by DMRC students during their “Super Sunday” event.

In line with the protest plan, students from Kabi Nazrul Government College began gathering at the college’s main gate earlier on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, DMRC students were seen taking positions across the street.

Students from Suhrawardy College claimed that a coalition of colleges in the capital led by DMRC students had attacked and vandalised Kabi Nazrul Government College and Suhrawardy College, causing significant damage to their institutions.
