The Mongla Customs House (MCH), the second-largest revenue collection center in the country, witnessed revenue collection amounting to Tk 1,578 crore in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

According to the MCH sources, a total of 11,676 reconditioned vehicles were imported through the Mongla Port generating Tk 1,578 crore in revenue during the same fiscal year.

Earlier, during the 2023-24 FY, 13,792 cars were imported, resulting in Taka 2,013 crore in revenue collection.

The outgoing fiscal year began with various challenges including the July uprising, a week-long internet shutdown, a dollar crisis, severe flooding, two Eid holidays, natural disasters, a strike by freight drivers, a customs clearance backlog, and a complete shutdown of the NBR, reports BSS.
M. Safiuzzaman, Commissioner of Mongla Customs House, confirmed that import of reconditioned vehicles is the primary source of their revenue.

Residents and stakeholders in the southern region are urging the government to enforce regulations promoting the use of all seaports equally and to enhance facilities for importers and exporters to encourage greater use of Mongla Port.
