In the Times Higher Education (THE) 2026 international ranking system, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) has secured 746th place globally in the research quality index.

In March this year, for the first time, the relevant committee submitted the necessary data for this ranking system.

THE considered five key indicators: research quality and environment, teaching quality, income from industry, and international outlook. A total of 19 public and private universities from Bangladesh were included in the ranking.

Among public universities in Bangladesh, MBSTU has achieved 10th place nationally and 7th place in the international outlook indicator in the 2026 list.

After nearly a week-long holiday, on the first working day Tuesday, Honourable Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand thanked the university’s ranking committee in his office at noon.

He said that this initial achievement in the university’s ranking journey belongs to all students, teachers, officials, and staff.

He offered special thanks to teachers who, alongside their teaching responsibilities, are guiding talented students and young researchers to conduct quality research.

He also mentioned that the university’s Quality Review and Ranking Committee has been working since the beginning of this year on the Impact Ranking provided by Times Higher Education, based on Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Recently, the committee organised a webinar with Rami Awad, Manager of the QS Ranking System for Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.

He expressed optimism that with collective efforts, MBSTU can be elevated to a more prestigious position among global universities.

Professor Dr. Md. Matiur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Chair of the university’s Quality Review and Ranking Committee, expressed a commitment for everyone to work together to build on this achievement and advance the university further.
