Maulana Bhasani University VC freed after 52 hours
Our Correspondent :
The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Tangail Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology Professor Dr. Md. Farhad Hossain was rescued from his office on Friday after at least 52 hours later.
The aggrieved class three employees locked the VC in his office on Nov 2 in a bid to realise their 14-point demand including permanent employment of 22 employees working on ad-hoc basis.
The general students, however, rescued the VC after marching the campus protesting such incident.
President of class three Employees Association SM Mahfuzur Rahman said that 22 employees have been working in various departments of the university for three years, but their jobs have not been made permanent yet.
They said recently a circular was published for the appointment against 15 posts in different categories instead of appointing the 22 employees.
When they demand for permanent employment of all employees against the posts, the vice-chancellor turned down their proposal.
Then the employees under class three Employees’ Association banner submitted a memorandum on October 30 with their 14-point demands including permanent employment of 22 employees against the advertisement.
But fining no solution, the employees locked the VC on Nov 2 to realise their demands.
However, VC Farhad Hossain said that in 2019 the previous VC appointed 22 class three employees on ad hoc basis. The University Grants Commission has approved 15 posts in two phases but they did not agree, he added.
Against such a situation they locked the VC since Wednesday and they were rigid to their demands and turned down the requests of the Registrar, Proctor, and other teachers to free the VC.
Finally the VC was freed by the general students and the VC thanked them.
