Khulna Tigers recorded a massive eight-wicket victory over Fortune Barishal in their match of the Ispahani Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Monday.
Sent into bat first, Barishal piled up a fighting total of 187 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
In reply, Khulna cruised into the victory spot making 188 for the loss of two wickets remaining with two overs.
Fortune Barishal had a troublesome start as opener Ibrahim Zadran (11) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Shai Hope off Oshane Thomas when Barishal’s score was 14.
Opener Tamim Iqbal and one-down Soumya Sarkar mended the innings contributing together 46 runs for the second wicket partnership before Soumya Sarkar (17) was unfortunately run out by Habibur Rahman when Barishal’s score was 60 for the loss of two wickets.
After Soumya’s departure, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim rescued their team from debacle adding together 57 runs in the three-wicket stand before Tamim Iqbal was dismissed by Nasum Ahmed when Barishal’s total was 117 for the loss of three wickets.
Tamim notched up a polished 40. His 33-ball innings was belted with five fours.
After Tamim’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad built another worthy partnership putting together 54 runs in the four-wicket stand before Mahmudullah Riyad was dismissed by Mukidul Islam when Barishal’s score was 171 for the loss of four wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 68. His 39-ball hurricane innings was studded with four sixes and five fours. Mahmudullah scored 27 from 19 deliveries with two sixes and two fours.
