Massive sand extraction from Manu River

Massive looting of sand worth around Tk 27 crore, extracted from the Balumahal of the Manu River in Kulaura, Moulvibazar, is underway.

Although the lease expired almost two years ago, the former lessee is accused of embezzling a large amount of government revenue by evading the government’s revenue.

A conspiracy is going on between Deepak Dey and the current lessee Nazmun Nahar Lipi.

In the current 1432 Bengali year, Nazmun Nahar Lipi, the wife of Selim Ahmed, a resident of Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj district, got the lease of that Balumahal.

The former lessee Deepak Dey is the current It has been alleged that he is illegally selling about 10 million cubic feet of sand out of the 55 million cubic feet of sand he had previously accumulated, even though he is not the lessee.

Meanwhile, on various roads in Hajipur, Prithimpasa, and Tilagaon unions of the upazila, Vehicles with an overload of 30 to 40 tons are being driven on these roads in violation of the law using 10-wheeled sand-laden overloaded dumper trucks. Sand is being transported.

This is causing extensive damage to the roads. The stability is decreasing due to cracks in various places.

Locals claim that since the validity of the sand stored by Deepak Dey, the leaseholder of 1430 Bengali year, has expired, it will be illegal and unlawful for him to sell that sand now.

The administration should sell this government sand at auction. This will save the government several crores of taka. Revenue will increase.

It is known that the government earns crores of taka in revenue every year from the Balumahal adjacent to the Katarkona market on the Manu River.

In the last 1430 Bengali year, the Balumahal was leased from the district administration to the Prithimpasha Union.
