Police have recovered the body of a man named Shri Sumanta Biswas (45) from a pond in Bagerhat. His body was recovered floating in a pond on Tuesday morning based on information received from the locals. Shri Sumanta Biswas is the son of late Satish Chandra Biswas of Babuganj village in Chitalmari Upazila of Bagerhat.
He is said to be a mason by profession. He lived in a rented house in the LGED intersection area of Ward Number 3 of Bagerhat Municipality.
Officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Model Police Station Md. Mahmudul Hasan said that Sumanta Biswas was working as a mason at the house of Rafiqul Islam in Badekarapara area of Bagerhat Sadar on Monday. He went out around noon to eat but did not return.
Since then, a lot of searches have been conducted for him. In the morning, the dead body was seen floating in the Pancha Dighi (Lake) and the police were informed.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Bagerhat District Hospital morgue. However, no injury marks were found on his body so far. The real cause of his death will be known after the autopsy, a police official said.
