The family members and the relatives of the martyrs who were killed during the recent quota reform movement have demanded trial and exemplary punishment of ex-prime minister Shiekh Hasina and her collaborators in a special tribunal.
The ex-Prime Minister Hasina unleashed the party’s armed forces, cadres of its sister organisations and law enforcement including RAB and SWAT which is usually used in anti-crime and anti-terrorism to the common students and the people of thecountry resulting in 580 deaths and thousands of hurt according to media report.
The students, university teachers and common people joined with the family members of the martyrs and injured where the families of the martyrs expressed the demand from a human chain held at Central Sahid Minar on Wednesday.
Samiu Aman Noor, a youth of only 13 years old, was shot and caused spot dead on the movement. Demanding justice, sister of Martyr, who came from Tongi of Gazipur district, said “My brother (13) was shot in his head causing spot dead.
My question to you all ‘is it freedom? Is it the culture our ancestors liberated country in 1971? Is it the freedom of firing bullets toward innocents?’ I want the trial of all extra-judicial killing including my brother.”
From the rally, the family members stated seven points of demand including Shiekh Hasina and her collaborators’ trial in a special tribunal, giving the status of national heroes to the martyrs of the movement, qualitative changes in state structures (legislative, judicial, executive) to prevent discrimination andinvestigate the genocide with the help of UN and publish the report.
22-year-old Emon Hossain Akash was shot dead by the police in Mirpur’s 10th Gol Chattar area. He died on August 4, the day before the fall of the government.
Eman’s mother Bebi Khatun came to the Shaheed Minar with her son’s picture in her hand and said, “They shot and killed my only child. After a lot of searching, we found his body at Azmat Hospital. My son’s body is still visible in my eyes. I can’t tolerate it. I want justice for my child’s murder.”
While speaking, the family members of the martyrs burst into tears while many people are seen holding banner festoons with pictures of shot-dead children or family members in human chains.
“My brother died at Naraynganj while fighting against the demonstration.
I have a deep pain of losing my brother but I have no regret now after seeing the successful revolution,” brother of Martyr of Jobayer Omor Khan said.
“It is my request to the state that state recognizes all those who were killed and injured during the movement, and 5th August to be recognized as the national revolutionary day,” he claimed.
