Marketing of ‘Haribhanga mangoes’ begin in Rangpur

Rangpur’s GI product ‘Haribhanga mangoes’ have started coming to the market. A meeting of the Deputy Commissioner with broken mango farmers and traders was held in Mithapukur, Rangpur. The meeting was held at the Padaganj School and College grounds on Tuesday, organised by the MithapukurUpazila Administration and Mithapukur Agriculture Office. Earlier, the marketing of Harbhanga mangoes by tearing mangoes in Ayub Ali’s garden in KhoragachMandalpara village was inaugurated by Rangpur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, as the chief guest. It was presided over by Assistant Commissioner Land and Upazila Executive Officer (Additional Duty) Multamis Billah. Speaking as the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Rabiul Faisal said, Rangpur’s broken mangoes are the pride of our Rangpur.

HariBhanga Mango has been officially recognized as a GI product. The economy of this region is flourishing. Deputy Director of Rangpur Agricultural Extension Department: Sirajul Islam was present as a special guest. He said that research is underway on HariBhanga Mango. Mango farmers should unite to avoid marketing HariBhanga Mango before the specified time. Also present as special guests were Rangpur District JamaatAmeer: Assistant Professor: GolamRabbani, District Jamaat Secretary: Maulana Md. EnamulHaque, BNP District Committee Member: Assistant Professor: SajedurRahmanRana, NazmulHaque (Emon). In his welcome speech, MithapukurUpazila Agriculture Officer SaifulAbedin said that this time there are mangoes in 1300 hectares of land in Mithapukur. The production target is 26,000 metric tons, with an estimated value of Tk 1.5 billion. Mango farmers have sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner for a cold storage for mango storage, road development and drainage system.
