UNB Comilla :
A sugarcane vendor was stabbed to death allegedly by an unidentified miscreants at Police Line Choumohoni area in the city on Sunday noon.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
Although the police detained the miscreant after a chase near the Tomchom Bridge area in the city, the identity of the miscreant also could not be ascertained.
Firoz Hossain, sub-inspector of Kandirpar Police Station, said a miscreant stabbed the sugarcane vendor with a local machete when the latter was selling sugarcane adjacent to Baghdad Hotel of Choumohoni area, leaving him dead on the spot.
Immediately afterwards, the miscreant fled the scene.
On information that the attacker went to Salahuddin Hotel More via Kandirpara wielding the blood-stained machete, police chased him and spotted him near Tomchom Bridge.
When the police tried to cordon him, the miscreant tried to run away and hid himself in a pond.
Police shot three rounds of bullets at the miscreant and arrested him in injured state.
Later, he was sent to Comilla Medical Hospital for treatment.
