Man held with foreign currencies at Ctg airport

In a joint operation conducted by the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID), a Dubai-bound passenger was detained on Thursday at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport with foreign currency worth Tk 2.44 crore.

Md Jakir Hossain, a resident of Dhaka, was aboard a US-Bangla Airlines flight from Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, en route to Dubai via Chattogram. Acting on a tip-off, customs officials conducted a search when the flight landed in Chattogram at around 7:30 AM. During the search, officials found 770,000 Saudi Riyal, equivalent to Tk 2.31 crore, and 46,000 UAE Dirham, valued at approximately Tk 13.80 lakh.

Group Captain Shaikh Abdullah Alamgir, Director of Shah Amanat International Airport, confirmed the incident. He stated that Jakir Hossain would be handed over to Patenga Model Police Station, where a money laundering case would be filed against him.
