A man has been arrested in connection with the recent attacks on doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Sanjoy Pal Joy, son of Ranjit Pal from Gaibandha city, was apprehended by police on Monday.

The arrest comes in response to a case filed by DMCH office assistant Amir Hossain, who alleged that Joy was involved in the violent
incident at the hospital’s emergency department.

The attack, which involved vandalism and physical assault on doctors, sparked widespread protests from the medical community across Bangladesh.

Superintendent of Gaibandha police, Mosharraf Hossain, confirmed the arrest. “Sanjoy Pal has been taken into custody in connection with the DMCH attack,” he said. “Legal proceedings will be initiated against him.”

The incident occurred on Sunday, September 1, when relatives of a patient became agitated and resorted to violence.

In response, doctors from public and private hospitals nationwide launched a complete shutdown to protest the attacks and demand justice for their colleagues.

The protesting doctors presented a four-point demand, which included the arrest and prosecution of the attackers, and the establishment of a safe working environment for healthcare professionals.
