A father was beaten in front of his daughter in Kuliarchar Upazila on Sunday afternoon at Tatarkandi, Ramdi Union, Kuliarchar Upazila.
The victim of the beating is Sohel Miah (32).
According to local sources, Sohel Miah in Harua Saudagarpara of Kishoreganj town got married to her neighbor Sabina Akter (27) about 10 years ago.
The couple has three children. Among them, 3-year-old daughter Raisa is the youngest. Sabina divorced Sohel a few days ago. The child remained with her father. But three-year-old Raisa kept crying to go to her mother.
Later, Sohel went out in search of his wife. When Sohel was crossing the Agarpur bus stand in Kuliarchar upazila with Raisa in a battery-powered auto-rickshaw, Raisa was crying for her mother.
At that time, local people blocked the road, thinking that Sohel was the kidnapper. At one point, they beat him up. Despite repeated pleas, Sohel could not be saved. Policemen rescued Sohel and took him to kuliarchar Police Station . There, it was proven that Sohel was not the kidnapper. The child in his arms was his daughter.
Police said Sohel was handed over to his family after the incident. He was treated at the local Upazila Health Complex. Sohel is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital under the supervision of family members.
Victim ‘s Sohel said, “When they came to beat me on suspicion, I tried to explain it again and again. But no one gave me a chance to say anything. Everyone got together and beat me, some even made videos.”
Super.of Police (SP) of Kishoreganj, Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury BPM told the New Nation that , “It is very sad, painful. There can be suspicion about anything. It is a big injustice, a big mistake to start a trial without evidence when there is suspicion. That is what happened in Sohel’s case.
OC in Kuliarchar, Md.Helaluddin said, Victim’s Shohel hand over to his family members. A general diary has been filed in this regard wirh Kuliarchar Police Station.
