Mamunul Haque, the Secretary General of Khilafat Majlis, was acquitted in a rape case filed at Sonargaon police station in Narayanganj.
On Thursday, Judge Jesmin Ara Begum of the District Women and Children Repression Prevention Special Tribunal announced the verdict. Mamunul Haque was present in court during the announcement.
In response to the court’s ruling, Mamunul Haque told reporters, “My family and I were victims of conspiracy and oppression by the authoritarian fascist Awami League government. Sheikh Hasina was of corrupt character. She filed a false case against me, threatening to kill my family in an attempt to tarnish my reputation. Today, the case has been proven false.”
Mamunul Haque’s lawyer, Omar Faruk Nayan, stated that the court took testimony from 26 out of 40 witnesses. Based on the arguments and evidence, the court found the case to be false and delivered a satisfactory verdict.
