The Malaysia Design Council (MRM) has formalised a significant tripartite partnership with the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) and the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) through the signing of an LOI at ASEAN Hall, Tokyo. This landmark collaboration paves the way for deeper cooperation in advancing design excellence across Malaysia, Japan and the wider ASEAN region.
The LOI was signed by Encik Amirul Fadhli Che Ismail, Director of MRM, Dr Kunihiko Chris Hirabayashi, Secretary General of AJC and Mr Hiroyuki Fukano, President & CEO of JDP.
In his opening remarks, Dr Hirabayashi emphasised that design is “not merely about function, but about heart – a delicate muscle that connects people, cultures and shared values.” Fukano described the partnership as “a bond between long-standing friends, united in our pursuit of growth and innovation.”
Representing MRM and Malaysia, Encik Amirul welcomed the signing as “a significant step in strengthening Malaysia’s involvement in regional design initiatives and deepening ties within the ASEAN and Japan design communities.” He stated that the partnership provides a strong framework for joint efforts in design education, innovation and exhibitions, enabling vibrant creative exchange and economic opportunity says a press release.
