Make Eid journey safe: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Monday said that vehicles without fitness will not be allowed to move on the roads and highways to make the journey of people safe and smooth on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr .

He said that the movement of vehicles such as Nasiman and Bhatavati will be also stopped on the highways.

The IGP made the remarks in a views exchange meeting with transport owners and workers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr at the Hall of Pride of Police Headquarters on Monday afternoon.

The IGP requested the transport owners and workers leaders not to carry extra passengers on the roofs of buses and other goods-carrying vehicles.

The leaders of the transport owners and workers assured the IGP of providing necessary assistance to the police.

The IGP hoped that if all work together the Eid journey will be comfortable for the people.

Later, the IGP held a virtual meeting with all Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs and District Superintendents of Police.

Addressing the meeting, he asked the police members to perform their duty professionally to reduce traffic jam and maintain law and order during Eid vacation.

The IGP ordered the police officers to work in coordination with the market committees as incidents of fires have occurred in various markets recently.

“Take quick action as soon as any untoward incident occurs to control the situation,” he asked the officers.

He said that the security measures for trading houses, shopping malls and markets will have to continue.

The IGP directed the police officials to strengthen security at the homes of people leaving the city for Eid celebration.

The IGP also ordered to ensure security of the Eid congregations across the country.
