Majority of dengue hospital cases originate outside Dhaka: DSCC official
NN Online :
Dhaka is not currently facing a dengue outbreak, according to Shajahan Mia, the administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). He stated that many of the patients receiving treatment for dengue in the capital’s hospitals have traveled from outside Dhaka.
Speaking at a press conference at Rabindra Sarobar on Friday morning, Shajahan made the remarks while launching a special cleaning and mosquito eradication campaign under the slogan, “Let’s keep our yards clean and create a clean city.”
As part of the drive, Dhanmondi has been divided into seven zones, with 700 workers deployed to clean key mosquito breeding grounds such as drains and pipes. Pesticides are also being applied in these areas.
“Most of the dengue patients in hospitals are from outside Dhaka. It doesn’t mean dengue is spreading here, but we’re continuing our regular operations and have doubled our efforts,” he said.
Acknowledging the general presence of dengue in Dhaka during monsoon, the DSCC has launched special preventive measures, including zone-wise drives across Dhaka South.
Shajahan also shared plans to tackle bad odors and unsanitary conditions in Dhanmondi. He emphasized his goal of making Dhaka a livable city and mentioned a task force led by the Local Government Division to ensure cleanliness and safety.
Collaborating agencies include RAJUK, the Ministry of Public Works, BRTA, and the police.
