In Barishal division, most of the major rivers are flowing crossing the danger level. According to the hydrology department of Water Development Board (WDB), water level increased since Tuesday.
They have been flow crossing danger level by attraction of full moon making tidal surges in the areas of river banks and other areas connected with river. Kirtankhola River of Barishal district is now flowing 23 centimeters above the danger level since 6:00 PM on Wednesday night.
Due to effect of increased water levels of Kirtankhola River, low lying and river bank regions at Palashpur, Band Road, Sadar Road, Kawnia, Hatkhola areas under Barishal City Corporation connected with the river, also flooded and submerged during the hightide since Wednesday.
Besides this Bishkhali river of Barguna district flowing 27 cm above, Meghna river in Bhola district flowing 74 cm above, Tentulia river in Bhola district flowing 19cm above, Baleshwar river in Pirojpur district flowing 19 cm above and Koacha river at Umedpur point of Pirojour district flowing 15 cm above the danger level since Wednesday night.
Engineer Tajul Islam, deputy director of Barishal divisional hydrology department said Barishal divisional WDB has 23 water-level measuring points and in those points in 23 rivers flowing highest 3.78 above the danger level in the division.
This increase of water level yet could not be narrated as flood, but may be created by crossing danger level due to attraction of full moon and pressure of water coming from upper stream to downstream, the WDB engineer, said the WDB official.
