CAse on Joy abduction: Mahmudur Rahman gets bail

Acting Editor of now-defunct the Daily Amar Desh- Mahmudur Rahman was freed from jail on bail from Kashimpur jail on Thursday.

He walked out of Kashimpur Jail part-2 at about 3:30 pm after the bail order reached the jail, said jailer Amirul Islam.

At that time, his family members, along with leaders and activists from Gazipur city BNP, Swechasebak Dal and other organizations, gathered there to welcome him at the prison gate.

Earlier on Thursday morning, Mahmudur Rahman was granted bail by a Dhaka court in a case related to the alleged conspiracy to abduct and kill former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain issued the bail order.

On September 29, Mahmudur Rahman was sent to jail by another court in the same case.

On that day, he was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka and he surrendered there at about 10:30 am.

The case dates back to 2011 when, according to the allegations, senior BNP leaders and its cultural wing, Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS), along with other political figures, conspired to kidnap and murder Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the United States.
