Bangladesh all-rounder Mahedi Hasan aims to deliver stellar performances in the upcoming World Cup (WC) to be held in the USA and the West Indies. He expressed his desire to exceed his usual standards on the big stage in a video message released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The all-rounder’s primary goal is to help his team progress to the second round of the tournament. If given the chance, he hopes to take the team even further.

“I have personal challenges in the World Cup. First, to get past the first round and then advance to the next. As usual, I don’t want to perform at my regular level; I want to do better and deliver even greater performances,” Mahidy said in the video.

Mahedi frequently takes on the challenging task of bowling during the power-play in T20 matches for the national team. Recognizing the difficulty of bowling in this high-scoring format, he aims to enjoy and excel in these challenging situations.

“The challenge is more than the enjoyment. Since power-play in T20 cricket is a game of runs, the key is to bowl economically as much as possible. The challenge is significant, and enjoying it would benefit the team,” he added.

He also mentioned the positive environment within the national team, noting the strong bonding and mutual respect between senior and junior players, which helps the team maintain a light-hearted mood on the field.

“Mahmudullah Riyad is the most senior player here. We interact very friendly and warmly with Riyad bhai, who jokes and do fun with us. That’s the atmosphere in our dressing room. There’s no distinction between seniors and juniors; everyone jokes and enjoys. We remain serious when it’s time to work.”

Yesterday at 10 AM local time (9 PM Bangladesh time), Bangladesh began their practice sessions in Houston as the concerns about storms in Houston have now subsided.

After arriving in Houston, the team took a day off to recover from the travel fatigue and dedicated another day to fitness work. From Sunday, they started their skill training.

At the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston, the players began their session with warm-ups and a game of football.

The three-match series will commence on May 21, with the remaining two matches scheduled for May 23 and 25.
