Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :
Locals have been urged not to be alarmed by steam emission and unexpected noise during the steam emission test at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) construction project.
The Russian contractor involved in the project, Etmastroy Export, said that the first unit of the project has started conducting ‘hot media tests’ since Sunday (July 13). According to the project design, the coolant circuit will be heated to the specified temperature and steam will be produced.
In addition, other safety parameters will be finally tested. Several unexpected sounds will be generated during the test, which is completely predetermined. There is nothing for the local public to panic about this. The process is completely safe. Rosatom has been informed that safety is the highest priority.
PCBL Managing Director Dr. Zayedul Hasan said that a planned steam emission test has been started to verify the functionality and safe operation of the main steam pipeline in the project area.
As part of this test, high-pressure steam will be released into the atmosphere through a specific pipeline, which will continue for about 5-6 days. During the test, a sudden sound (which can be heard like the sound of a jet engine) may be generated from time to time for a short time. This sound and the emitted steam are completely normal, predetermined and safe.
There is no possibility of any risk or danger to the public. This is a regular technical process, which is carried out to ensure the stability and safety of the nuclear power plant. He said that there is no reason for the local people to be confused or worried during this time.
