Thousands of residents in Kamrangirchar are forced to cross a precarious bamboo bridge, a makeshift solution to the absence of a proper connecting structure.
With around 5,000 people living in the area, the residents are compelled to rely on this dangerous alternative, as government efforts to build a permanent bridge have stalled due to lack of financing and oversight.
The bamboo bridge, which was constructed with funds collected by the locals, is the only link for students, healthcare workers, and daily commuters between the two neighborhoods. However, the structure is weak and unstable, posing a constant risk of accidents and injuries.
“Every day, we fear for our lives crossing this bamboo bridge,” said one local resident. “Students are struggling, and elderly people or those who need urgent medical care face the greatest danger.
Despite several appeals, the government hasn’t provided the necessary support.”The lack of a permanent bridge has led to widespread frustration among locals, who feel neglected by authorities. In this age of rapid urban development, they argue that it is unacceptable for such vital infrastructure to be ignored.
Doctors and professionals working in the area also face significant challenges. “Transporting patients or medical supplies across this makeshift bridge is a nightmare,” said a local doctor.
“While the government had earlier expressed plans to improve connectivity between Kamrangirchar and Lalbagh, the initiatives have seemingly turned into “mud”.
