Tangail Correspondent:
Elite forces from RAB-14 (CPC-3, Tangail) and RAB-1 (Porabari Camp, Gazipur) have arrested a listed top terrorist, Akash alias ‘Pichchi Akash’ (27), along with his associate Saurav (25) from the Koratipara area of Basail in Tangail. The joint operation took place on Tuesday, and the arrest was officially confirmed on Wednesday afternoon through a press release by Major Kawsar Bandhan, Commander of RAB Tangail Camp.
According to the press release, both arrestees—Pichchi Akash and Saurav—are prime accused in the murder case of college student Abul Kalam Azad in Kaliakair, Gazipur.
Abul Kalam Azad (26), a third-year degree student, had been living in Gazipur for his studies. He was reportedly familiar with the suspects. The accused had been threatening and harassing him for some time. On December 21, 2024, the suspects, through an intermediary named Iman, lured the victim to a local shop owned by one Harun in the Ulusara area under Kaliakair Police Station. Once the victim arrived, the suspects, who were lying in wait, attacked him with locally made weapons, causing critical injuries. Azad was rushed to Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur, Tangail, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Following the incident, the victim’s mother, Kanchan Begum, filed a murder case at Kaliakair Police Station.
RAB Commander Major Kawsar Bandhan confirmed that both Pichchi Akash and Saurav are listed armed criminals and have multiple cases filed against them, including charges of robbery, abduction, extortion, drug trafficking, and theft. They have been handed over to the investigating officer for further legal proceedings.
