Four people, including three school students, were killed in separate lightning strike incidents in Kishoreganj’s Pakundia and Mithamoin upazilas on Tuesday, according to local authorities.
In Chorteki village of Pakundia, three Class Nine students—Irina Akhtar (15), Priya Akhtar (15), and Borsha (15)—were struck by lightning while returning home from school during a sudden storm.
Pakundia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Billal Hossain said the girls were initially taken to Pakundia Upazila Health Complex, where Irina and Priya were declared dead. Borsha, who was critically injured, was transferred to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital, where she was also pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, in Mithamoin’s Ghagra Union, a farmer named Kadu Mia died after being struck by lightning while collecting rice from an open field during the rain. Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam confirmed that locals took him to Mithamoin Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead on arrival.
UNO Billal Hossain added that the administration is in contact with the victims’ families and will provide financial assistance for funeral arrangements.
