At least seven people, including three schoolgirls and three farmers, were killed in separate lightning strikes across three districts on Tuesday.
In Kishoreganj, three schoolgirls and a farmer lost their lives in separate incidents. The deceased schoolgirls have been identified as Irina (15), daughter of Jalal Uddin; Priya (15), daughter of Badal Mia; and Barsha (15), daughter of Borhan Uddin — all residents of Charteki village under Pakundia upazila. They were ninth-grade students at Charteki Girls School and College, according to the district correspondent.
The fourth victim in Kishoreganj was Kadu Mia (35), a farmer and son of Motaleb Mia, from Chamakpur Dakshin Hati in Ghagra union of Mithamoin upazila.
In Jhenaidah, two farmers died while working in the fields under Sadar upazila. The victims were Mirajul Islam (25), son of Shahajzel Hossain from Paschim Bishyakhali village in Ganna union, and Waliyar Rahman (50), son of Khorshed Alam from Bhabanipur village under Maharajpur union, confirmed Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station.
In Sunamganj, another farmer, Zakir Hossen (35) of Paschim Lakshmipur village under Jamalganj upazila, was killed by a lightning strike while harvesting paddy in a nearby haor around 11 am. He collapsed on the spot and was later declared dead at Jamalganj Upazila Health Center.
