Less than 40pc attend classes amid scorching heat

Public life in Manikganj is disturbed due to the intense heatwave. After a long time, the educational institution opened on Sunday, but the attendance was less than half. Most of the high schools and primary schools in the district had about 40 percent student attendance.
It is known that the school opened yesterday after 35-day holiday including additional holidays announced by the government in Holy Ramzan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Bengali New Year and heatwave. However, attendance of students is low due to continuous heatwave.
Mozammel Haque, a head teacher said that despite opening the school after a long vacation, 40 percent students attended the school on the first day.
Upazila Central Abdul Gani Sarkar High School Acting Principal Hossain Ara said that about 49 percent students were present in this school on Sunday. This rate is observed in almost all educational institutions of the district.
However, Bangladesh Kindergarten Association, Manikganj District convener Principal Mohammad Younus Ali said that 214 Kindergarten schools in the district were teaching from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and about 80 percent students were present on the first day. A total of 79 primary, 29 secondary schools, madrasas, and 2 colleges of Shibalaya Upazila were found to be less than half of total regular attendance. Attendance is relatively high in primary schools as the teaching schedule is from 8 am to 11:30 am.
