A Supreme Court lawyer has stirred controversy by issuing a legal notice demanding the resignation of Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury and urging for the immediate implementation of online classes in response to the ongoing heatwave.
In a bold move aimed at safeguarding public interest, Supreme Court lawyer Khandaker Hasan Shahariar dispatched the legal notice on Thursday to Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, and other key education officials.
The notice calls for the reduction of syllabuses across educational institutions and advocates for the initiation of online educational activities from May to July.
Furthermore, the notice proposes adjusted schedules for educational institutions, suggesting morning classes from 6am to 8am and day classes from 8:30am to 10:30am during the scorching summer months.
The plea for online classes and syllabus curtailment comes amidst the backdrop of extended holidays due to rising temperatures, which have disrupted regular schooling activities. Initially slated to reopen on April 21, educational institutions saw further closures as the Ministry of Education extended holidays by one week on April 20.
Subsequent attempts to resume classes on April 28 were short-lived, with further closures announced due to heat-related concerns.
While the Ministry of Education has announced plans to resume classes in phases, with primary schools slated to reopen on May 5 and secondary schools on May 4, the decision to continue teaching on Saturdays in secondary institutions underscores efforts to mitigate learning disruptions.
The legal notice underscores growing concerns regarding the impact of extreme weather conditions on educational activities and underscores the urgency for adaptive measures to ensure uninterrupted learning amidst challenging circumstances.
