City Desk :

A wave of activity has surged through Dhaka courts as lawyers scramble to purchase bail bonds following a recent judicial decision to hold immediate hearings for bail applications in political cases.

The directive, issued by the Dhaka District Judge, Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, and Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, mandates that any bail application made in a political case will be heard promptly. This announcement has led to an unprecedented rush of lawyers seeking to secure bail for their clients, reports UNB.

Since early Tuesday morning, long queues of lawyers have formed at every booth within the court premises to buy bail bonds. This follows a meeting held earlier in the day in the District Judge’s Court meeting room, where the decision was officially communicated to the legal community.

Ruhul Amin, a lawyer standing in line to purchase a bail bond, explained his urgency: “One of my clients is in jail in a case of political bribery. A bail hearing is scheduled for Tuesday according to the judge’s order.

That’s why I am standing in line to buy bail bonds in advance.”

Despite the high volume of bail applications, judges are hearing these cases at a limited capacity. The hearings are taking place across multiple courts in Dhaka, including the Metropolitan Sessions Judge, District and Sessions Judge, Chief Metropolitan, and Chief Judicial Magistrate Courts.

Interestingly, the lower court premises of Dhaka have seen no presence of police or law enforcement members amidst this flurry of legal activity. This absence is notable given the typically heightened security associated with political cases.
