Lawyers join ‘March for Justice’ prog in Ctg

As part of the movement in favor of quota reform, the agitators protuested in Chittagong as part of the ‘March for Justice’ march programme in courts, campuses and roads.On Wednesday (July 31) at 11:30 am, they started the movement on the road in front of the Zilla Parishad building in Laldighir Par area under Kotwali Thana of the city.Later, when a group of lawyers joined the movement, the students marched towards the court building with their support.It can be seen on the ground, the students started the movement by blocking the road in front of the Zilla Parishad building.
At this time, the police gave an ultimatum to the protesters to withdraw from the road within half an hour. Meanwhile, a group of lawyers joined the agitators with a procession. Later, the combined group of students and lawyers took a position in front of the lawyer building.Later, the students and their supporters raised slogans in front of the lawyers’ building.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Additional Police Commissioner AS Mahtab Uddin, Kotwali Zone Assistant Commissioner (AC) Atnu Chakraborty, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Obaidul Haque were present at the scene. No one was willing to comment when contacted about the movement.
Meanwhile, pro-BNP lawyers have supported the students’ movement. Although not directly participating in the protest, a group of 50 to 60 people led by Abdus Sattar, known as a pro-BNP lawyer, stood beside the protesting students.
On the other hand, pro-Awami lawyers marched against the movement. A group of 30 to 40 people led by Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, Legal Affairs Secretary of Metropolitan Awami League, came towards Lawyer Bhavan with a procession. Meanwhile, tension arose between the two sides.When the agitating students tried to go towards the court building, a scuffle took place between the lawyers and the students.
Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury told reporters, we have not come to prevent anyone from expressing their independent opinion. Access of litigants to court is barred, a sources said.
Many people are complaining that the litigants are prevented from entering the court in a position where both parties are facing each other.
A judicial candidate from Anwara named Jane Alam told that8 came to file a case in court. Documents are all prepared. But due to this movement, entry to the court is being prevented.
The ‘March for Justice’ program was called as a part of the agitators’ pre-announced program to demand 8 point demands against the attacks and killings of students across the country.
