A passenger vessel sank with more than 200 passengers on board on Monday near Munshiganj’s Louhijong Upazila in river Padma. According to police, the vessel named Pinak-6 went down around 11.30 am while it was heading towards Munshiganj’s Mawa from Madaripur’s Kawrakandi. Louhijong Police Station OC Tofazzal Hossain told bdnews24.com that the police have rushed to the spot at the Louhajang Turning Point of the river. Quoting Mawa port’s Launch Owners’ Association President Iqbal Hossain, the police officer said that over 250 passengers were on board the vessel. It is not known as yet how many passengers could be rescued or have swam to safety and how many have met their end.
