The Upazila BNP conference and council were concluded amidst great enthusiasm and 100% voting by councilors in Kulaura. 923 councilors were elected by secret ballot in the council held at the Girls High School in the municipality on Saturday.
They exercised their voting rights and elected leaders. A total of 17 candidates contested for 5 posts. District BNP convener Faizul Karim Mayun announced the results of the council session at 7:30 pm on Saturday. BNP’s Sylhet divisional secretary gave a brief speech at the time.
Organizing Secretary G. K. Gaus BNP National Executive Committee member and former MP M Naser Rahman, District BNP Convener Committee Member Abdur Rahim Ripon, Kulaura Upazila BNP outgoing Convener Md. Redwan Khan Council President Joynal Abedin Bachchu, former Upazila BNP president and five-time councilor of Kulaura Municipality, was elected with 493 votes. His nearest rival, BNP leader Shawkatul Islam Shoku, received 425 votes. He was elected as Senior Vice President with 360 votes.
Former Vice President of Upazila BNP Abdul Jalil Jamal The nearest rival BNP leader Azizur Rahman Monir got 348 votes, Badrul Hossain Khan 172 and Zainul Islam Junaid got 38 votes. He was elected as the General Secretary of Upazila BNP with 392 votes.
Former General Secretary Badruzzaman Sajal. His nearest rival Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury got 329 votes, Sufian Ahmed got 199 votes. BNP leader Komor Uddin Ahmed Komru was elected as Senior Joint Secretary with 418 votes. His nearest rival Mainul Haque Bakul got 338 votes and Sarwar Alam Belal got 161 votes.
BNP leader Abdul Muktadir Monu was elected as the organizing secretary with 328 votes. His closest rival former student leader Sipar Ahmed got 253 votes, Delwar Hossain 215 votes, Nurul Islam Emon 77 and Moin Uddin Swapan got 40 votes.
Earlier, on Saturday afternoon, in the first session, the conference was inaugurated by playing the national and party anthems and flying pigeons in the presence of central, district and upazila leaders and presidents and secretaries of 13 unions.
