A MoU was signed between the Leather Engineering Department of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and the Medical Device Innovation Center of National Cheng Kung University( NCKU), Taiwan, for international cooperation in medical technology and innovative research. The bilateral MoU signing ceremony was held at the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the university on Thursday.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Maksud Helali, was present as the chief guest at the MoU signing ceremony. The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Registrar Engineer Md. Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan on behalf of KUET and Director of the Medical Device Innovation Center, Professor Dr. Fong-Chin Su signed the agreement. The agreement will ensure joint research and development in cutting-edge areas such as therapeutic footwear, foot orthotics, human movement biomechanics and smart wearable systems.
The MoU will include exchange of teachers, researchers and students, organization of joint scientific seminars and implementation of specialized training programs between the two institutions. Speakers at the agreement signing ceremony said that the combination of NCKU’s expertise in footwear and material science of KUET’s Leather Engineering Department with NCKU’s biomechanics and medical device development will open new possibilities for medical device innovation in Bangladesh. It will play an important role in research on specialized footwear and prosthetic limbs, especially for diabetic patients. The event was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the university, Professor Dr. Mohammad Sultan Mahmud, Head of the Department of Leather Engineering, Professor Md. Golam Quader, and teachers of the concerned departments.
