Professor Dr. Md. Hazrat Ali, a professor of the Department of Civil Engineering of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), has been appointed as the acting vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET). A notification was issued by the Scholarship and Engineering Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education on Thursday ( May 1). With the approval of the President and the Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Hazrat Ali has been appointed as the interim vice-chancellor of the university in accordance with Sections 10 (1) and 10 (3) of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003.
During his tenure, he will avail the salary and allowance equivalent to his current position and other benefits related to the position as per the rules and he will be present on the university campus full-time as the Chief Executive Officer of the university. This order has been issued by the Ministry of Education with the condition that the Honorable President and Chancellor can cancel this appointment at any time if they deem it necessary.
Incidentally, in the wake of the terrorist attack in KUET on February 18, students demanded the resignation of the VC and Pro-VC. In the wake of the two-month-long agitation and the students’ hunger strike, the Ministry of Education issued a notification on April 25 relieving the VC and Pro-VC of the university.
