KUET administrative activities coming to a standstill sans VC
Khulna Correspondent :
Even though ten days have passed, all administrative activities of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), one of the country’s leading engineering universities, are at a standstill without guardians.
The salaries, allowances and Eid-ul-Azha festival allowances of about 1100 teachers, officials and employees of the university are stuck due to the lack of the Vice-Chancellor’s signature. Teachers and officials are worried about this.
The university’s more than 500 low-income employees and 30 security personnel of outsourcing are in the most trouble. They have not yet received their salaries for the month of April.
The development work worth 6 billion taka of the university’s ongoing development work is about to come to a standstill due to the lack of the Vice-Chancellor’s signature on the bill.
It is known from the university’s accounting branch that all types of financial power of the university are in the hands of the Vice-Chancellor.
Not a single bill of taka is passed without his signature. Every month, the Vice-Chancellor signs the salary bills of more than 350 teachers, more than 200 officials and more than 500 employees of the university.
But even though ten days have passed including absences and resignations, the Vice-Chancellor is not in KUET.
In such a situation, all financial activities including the current month’s salary of the university’s teachers, officials and employees, Eid festival allowance, and the bills for the ongoing development activities of the university are suspended.
This problem cannot be solved in any way until the government appoints a new Vice-Chancellor.
Md. Sumon Sardar, supervisor of the university’s 30 outsourcing security personnel, said that salaries have been suspended for two months.
Everyone has to live on loans. He also said that everyone has families. Religious festivals are ahead, but now we are running out of money to buy salt.
Dr. Zulfikar Hossain, director of the university’s infrastructure and academic activities expansion project, said that currently, work on a development project worth 600 crore taka is underway at the university.
The payment of bills of the contracting companies has been stopped due to the lack of the Vice-Chancellor’s signature.
He has hinted that if the contracting companies cannot pay the bills before Eid, they will stop working after Eid.
