A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the School of Biological Sciences of Khulna University (KU) and the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for Coastal Wetland Ecosystems at Xiamen University, China. This agreement signed between the leading universities of the two countries marks the beginning of a new era in coastal environment and biodiversity conservation research.
On Thursday, Khulna University Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Nurunnabi and Xiamen University Key Laboratory Director Professor Dr. Yihui Zhang officially signed the agreement in a virtual ceremony at the two universities.
The agreement will create opportunities for teacher and student exchange, joint research, information and technology exchange, and cultural cooperation. This agreement will be considered a significant step for Bangladesh in the conservation of coastal areas and biodiversity. It is expected that an effective and fruitful partnership will be established between the two universities in the long term.
Speaking at the event, Khulna University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim said that this MoU is not just a formal agreement, but a joint commitment for academic excellence, international cooperation and sustainable development. This will not only build bridges between the two universities, but also pave the way for innovative solutions to address global challenges such as coastal environmental crises.
He further said that Xiamen University’s reputation in coastal research is fully consistent with Khulna University’s strategic goals and Bangladesh’s delta region-based context. He expressed hope that this signed MOU will create new knowledge, develop young talents and deepen intercultural understanding between the two countries. Khulna University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. also spoke at the event. Md. Harunor Rashid Khan, Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Nurunnabi, Dean of the School of Biology Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Hossain, Director of Key Laboratory of Xiamen University Prof. Dr. Yihui Zhang, Additional Director Prof. Dr. Luzhen Chen. The welcome speech was delivered by the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology and Professor of Forestry and Wood Technology Discipline of Khulna University Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam.
