‘Komola Ronger Bodh,’ a play about life, works of Jibanananda Das
Entertainment Report :
The theatre group ‘Theatre Factory’ is bringing a new play on the life and works of poet Jibanananda Das.
The play is written and directed by Alok Basu.
The play will have its inaugural performance on May 9 at the capital’s Mohila Samity Auditorium.
Director Alok Basu said that plans are being made to hold four more screenings of the play on May 10 and 11 at the same venue.
Before that, the team will perform a technical show of the play on April 27.
The Theatre Factory will dedicate the performance to the memory of the group’s late playwright Aly Zaker.
Director Alok Basu told this correspondent, “Jibanananda Das is one of the leading poets of Bengali literature. He is internationally recognised. However, in our country, he is not discussed in the same way. It can be said that he is less enlightened than many. The plan of the play is to spread him among the new generation. This play reflects how today’s young generation views poet Jibanananda Das, and compares that view with the poet’s time.”
Regarding the story of the play, the director said, “The play’s narrative is based on the life and literary works of poet Jibanananda Das. On October 14, 1954, Jibanananda Das was a victim of a tram accident. That is where the story of the play begins. He died on October 22 at Shambhunath Pandit Hospital. Lying in a hospital bed for 9 days, the poet faced his life-dreams-imaginations-philosophy and reality in the world of his thoughts. Through the poet’s ‘Literary Notes’, some of today’s young people who love life and poetry have discovered Jibanananda Das.”
Dipu Mahmud, Arif Anwar and KM Hasan will play the role of Jibanananda Das in the drama. Asha Akter, Bipasha Sayeed, Munmun Khan, Subhash Sarkar, Aklima Akter, Shantunur Ihsan Digonto, Hasibul Haque, Mrinmoy Chowdhury, Nowrin Papri, Robiul Islam Rajib, Shaira, Surjo, Pritom and others will play other roles in the drama ‘Komola Roder Bodh’.
