The Rataboro rice and cheese of Kishoreganj district branding product, have received Geographical Indication (GI) product certification.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kishoreganj, Fauzia Khan has received the certificate at a ceremony organized by the Department of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks of the Ministry of Industries on the occasion of ‘World Intellectual Property Day 2025’ at the Capital ‘s Foreign Service Academy Auditorium on Wednesday afternoon.
At the ceremony, 24 products from different regions of the country, including Kishoreganj’s Rataboro rice and cheese, were given Geographical Indication (GI) registration certificates.
Advisor of the interim government Adilur Rahman Khan Shubro attended as chief guest, while Industries secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman presided over the program.
Cultural Affairs Advisor Mostafa Sarwar Farooqui, as special guest , prominent artist, actress and music director Armin Musa, officials of the Bangladesh Handloom Board were also present.
Nishan Mia, a cheese maker from Ashtagram, said that his cheese is exported to foreign countries. Tourists come and buy it. Government ministers and MPs also buy cheese from Ashtagram.
DC of Kishoreganj, Fauzia Khan said , the Geographical Indication (GI) recognition of Kishoreganj’s Rataboro rice and the district’s branding product Ashtagram cheese is an important achievement for the agriculture and food industry of this district. It will help increase the quality and reputation of these two local product.
